a. Unlock gate

b. Make certain the “Range in Use” sign is facing out

c. Lock the gate behind you (If someone is behind you check that they are members before letting them in). If the gate is standing open do not close and lock the gate, there will be a shooting discipline or event going on that is open to non-members.

d. Enter grounds and wear your badge.

e. When leaving the range lock the gate behind you unless a discipline or event is going on. If you are the last shooter to leave, turn the “Range Safe” sign to face out.

2. Always observe the 10 miles per hour speed limit.

3. Alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine, are not permitted in the Park or on the range. No one shall handle or discharge firearms while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Both prescription and non-prescription pharmaceuticals that may cause drowsiness or any other physical or mental impairment must be avoided.

4. The County Park and Gun Range are closed to hunting. The area is a Game Sanctuary. If wildlife wanders onto the range area all shooting will be suspended until the range is clear

5. Approved hearing and eye protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators on or near the firing line.

6. The direction of all fire must be straight down range, and into an area in which the background can be clearly seen. Know your backstop and what is beyond it.

7. Firearms shall not be fired, loaded, handled or dry fired while any person is down range. Never point a firearm at another person. Keep all muzzles pointed down range or “up” and slightly down range, if necessary to avoid sweeping another shooter.

8. The pistol range is to be used for pistols (rimfire and centerfire), rimfire rifles, and straight wall center fire pistol caliber rifles as noted on sign, shotguns and black powder guns. The benches on the far right end of the firing line are for handicapped access for centerfire rifle use. These benches may also be used by anyone when the Rifle Range is under construction or closed for any reason. Handicapped/disabled members have priority.

9. The rifle range can be used for all legal firearms.

10. The use of machine guns must have prior approval from the Gun Club. Notify the Gun Club coordinator or President prior to use.

11. Any person damaging or removing targets will be forced to pay damages and will be ejected from the
Club.

12. Metal target frames and wooden target frames are provided in the pistol range target shed for member use on the range.

13. Mine belt target backers are provided at the rifle range. Do not shoot the wood or steel frames, shoot only at the clear belt area. These targets are for your use, please do not destroy or remove them.

14. Do not shoot steel targets, target stakes or frames with high power rifles or pistols or ANY jacketed bullet. Only low velocity pure lead bullets are safe to use on the cowboy range steel targets! Splatter can occur at remarkable distances even with soft lead. The higher the velocity and harder the bullet the worse are your chances of being hit. You will be liable for any personal injury caused by violations of this rule. Do not use pop cans or glass of any kind for targets.

15. When completed shooting, remove all targets from backers or frames, police up grounds and put all trash in containers. Return all target frames and silhouettes to target shed and police up and lock shed. Leave the range cleaner than you found it.

16. Nonmembers are permitted to use the range as a guest only. They must leave when you do. Urge them to become members. Children may use the range facilities only when under direct adult supervision.

17. During match functions firearms may be uncased, with actions open and/or cylinders, chambers or magazines empty and carried or stored under the direction of the Range Officer and or Match Director between stages. When moving from one range area to another during match functions muzzles of long guns shall be kept “up” at all
times with the action open and magazines and chamber empty.

18. During any match or club function, the range being used is reserved for that purpose until its completion. The range is under the control of the Executive Officer, Training Officer, Range Officers, Match Directors, and any other Officer whose instructions are to be obeyed to insure range safety.

19. All matches are open to the general public, except that membership in certain organizations may be required to participate in registered championships.

20. Membership in the Putnam County Gun Club is open to all persons. New applicants are required to pay a $25.00 registration fee in addition to the $75.00 membership fee. Memberships include spouses and dependant children.

22. The improper use of firearms and range firing activities is generally recognized as being inherently dangerous and a serious accident can occur. Each shooter’s first responsibility is for their own safe conduct, but all shooters are expected to remain alert for actions by others that may be unsafe. By using the Club’s facilities and participating in range firing, you assume the risk inherent in these activities.
